It was an exceptionally sunny day for the crowd of 2273 that came out to The Den. was the appointed referee with assistance provided by Gabriël van Walsem and Bernie Bales. The match took place on neutral ground. The head coach flashed hand signals from the sideline and SCS formed up in a 3-5-2 combination. Let's hope the opposing sideline wasn't filming that. The following players took the field: Volarević - Schwendner, Hammer, Ollonen - Olsson, Samh, Gayrat Uulu, Hadad, Manzano - Polunin, Samró.

Our studio analysts were correct. Lattenkracher has taken the field in a 3-5-2 alignment. Starters: Spät - Leubel, Henfling, Partein - Evert, Gerhards, Kicker, Augustiner, Hoke - Schemmann, Timushev.

A free kick aimed at the keeper's far post almost gave Lattenkracher the lead 6 minutes in, but the ball just wasn't able to squirm its way through the defensive wall. Andreas Hoke came close to putting the visiting team one up 8 minutes into the match, following a solo raid down the middle, but Tarzan Volarević managed to tip the ball over. Some good play on the left wing created an opportunity for the visitors 21 minutes into the match, and Mikhail Timushev wasn't about to waste it. He got past the defenders and fired a shot that the keeper just missed. 0 - 1 for the visitors. 0 - 1 was the halftime score. The Count appeared on the jumbotron and announced that Lattenkracher had 51...51 percent possession. AH AH AH!

SCS's Seytikul Gayrat Uulu made a successful breakthrough on the left after 59 minutes and should have tied things up, but instead he sent it over the bar. The home fans looked somber as they watched their team give up another goal, this one coming from their right as Anton Augustiner put one through the keeper's legs. 0 - 2 after 62 minutes. By now, the players of Lattenkracher felt that victory was a sure thing and began to play it safe, focusing on defense and not risking too much going forward. Kristian Samró's technique was perfect on this sunny day and led to some beautiful tricks that fooled the defense. Jalil Samh of SCS received a yellow card after 68 minutes for unsportsmanlike behavior. They weren't going to win with their current game plan, so the SCS coach told his players how to change things up 70 minutes in. The away team's Edmond Schemmann took advantage of a mistake on the home side's right after 77 minutes increasing Lattenkracher's lead to 0 - 3. SCS had to make a substitution after 79 minutes. Per Olsson apparently was hit by a thrown bottle of Schlitz by one of the opposing players' fans, and now reeks of blood and bad beer. While the coach remonstrated with the side official about the situation, Karsten Sternschanze finished his warmups and came on. With 80 minutes played, Richardt Partein nearly put the visitors up by one more as he broke through in the middle and fired from just outside the box, but his shot whizzed just over the bar. The game had been going for 81 minutes when Mikhail Timushev broke through on the right, upping the score to 0 - 4 for Lattenkracher, much to the home crowd's dismay. Looks like Nate Silver was right again - his prediction that SCS would have 52 percent possession in this half was spot on!

Most important SCS player was Artem Polunin. Even six year old fans were wincing at the poor play by Karsten Sternschanze today. The most outstanding Lattenkracher player was without a doubt Mikhail Timushev. Speaking of stinking up the place, Dirk Gerhards sure smelled like the bottom of Batman's shoe after a night of crimefighting in Gotham. The match ends 0 - 4.
