Back the bid!

Excitement is mounting within the Yemeni community after being selected in the top 5 bids for World Cup XVI - a great chance to bring the HT WC to the Middle East for the first time and to one of the smaller nations in the game. This article looks in more detail at the HT nation of Yemen and the bid itself.

As an Englishman, perhaps it shouldn't be surprising that my adopted HT country of Yemen is bidding to host World Cup XVI. England is currently preparing to host the Olympics in the summer of 2012 and will find out next month whether its bid to host the 2018 football World Cup has been successful. Fortunately, unlike FIFA, HT doesn't work eight seasons in advance and Yemen should find out within the next week whether its bid has been successful.

Yemen is a small HT country but more than capable of putting on a big show for World Cup XVI with a very enthustiastic community mixing local users such as faresar (NT coach) and Brambler (bid leader) with foreign users such as myself (U20 coach) and koekedallie (NT assistant). There are also some very nice stadiums, led by Abdulelah's Zahia D Stadium which will be one of HT's largest stadiums when work is completed in a few days with a 310,000 capacity, and Yemen has some good club teams with faresar's The Young Red Team winning four matches in the Hattrick Masters during the season before last - but still not being the best team in Yemen last season as Brambler's Angry Wolfes won their first league title.

Hosting the WC would also be a great opportunity to promote HT within Yemen to improve its number of users and their activity. It is also time that the HT World Cup comes to the Middle East since it has never done so before in HT history.

Particular thanks relating to the bid should go to:

- koekedallie, who gave the Yemen bid its initial impetus and has remained involved throughout the process
- Brambler, for acting as bid leader
- oizo n3cro, for producing an excellent video showcasing Yemen in its splendour as a RL and HT country
… and everyone else involved in the bid, including those who have supported us

Go Yemen!
