7th Symphony for BDSM FC

This is an unrestrained self-praising, self-worshiping read for all the fans, a tribute in celebration of BDSM FC's 20th season in HT. The soundtrack promises to bring BDSM's undying passion and unrelenting determination to life.

The last time Brutus Dominion Spartacus Maxima Futbol Club (it's debut name was TEAM KHC when the original squad was assembled deep in the bowels of Keat Hong Camp) reached round 7 of the SG Cup, it also featured a 100% Singaporean line up(346887403). This season, BDSM FC managed to match their best performance in club history, and although they failed to go one step further, the club remains well-loved by its legion of Fans & fans as it faithfully stuck to its revolutionized philosophy of being a true Singaporean team. All these while maintaining its competitiveness.

The furthest we'd ever been.

Back on the cloudy day of 24th Aug 2011, Lee Siong Nie (194992274) led BDSM FC out for the umpteenth time onto the pitch against Jurong FC (136987). It was the club's first time ever in the 7th round of the SG Cup, an unprecedented feat.

"I remember that day," said Lee wistfully with his gaze fixed upon a hanging portrait of Nurse X. "(Toh) Ting Loong (220663966) had only just joined the club having been swayed by the beauties of BDSM. Over that few weeks, we kept pushing hard, whether during training or on actual match days."

"Up till round six we were fully focused on one objective - to be better than we'd ever been. Shoot harder than we'd ever shot. Run faster than we'd ever ran. Advance as far as never before. To reach new heights," said Ting Loong. "The manager promised me rewards I'd never dreamt of. Till today, I still fully believe him, he'd indeed not let me down. Coming to BDSM has definitely been the easiest decision I'd ever made since leaving Kanu United (138185) for the allures of overseas football."

Kanu United is no stranger to most veteran managers. It was named after its former manager, then known among his peers as the great Kanu. The same manager was an army friend and had gone to secondary school with f'zilla. Even today, the 2 can still be caught playing soccer together with the likes of Woxingwosu (136715)'s 99chs164.

f'zilla was caught shedding a tear. Or is that mineral water?

"Kanu would be proud of him, that he'd matured into a brilliant player. And that we'd managed to bring him home. Wait till I tell him when we play soccer ourselves again," said f'zilla.

While the game eventually ended in favour of the hosts, BDSM FC had reached its own milestone of having advanced that far with a fully local lineup. Today, only 5 of those in that starting line-up remain at the club.

The patriarch of the local Fan family clan Fan Shui (236457587) was clearly disappointed at the eventual result last Wednesday (393406049) as Batavia (138319) secured their ticket to the next round.

"Back in 2011, I remembered being on the bench throughout the game. Like every other player I wanted to play in Cup games but f'zilla had decided to let Teo play ahead of me. He (Teo) was in his prime then, I had no regrets of not playing then as we all knew he was the better keeper then. Each goal against us felt like a spear driven into my mortal heart, I knew I couldn't have done better, and I felt so helpless on the bench," recalled Shui.

"On Wednesday, as I stepped onto the pitch, I knew that I had a chance to herald a new dawn for the team. I tried my best to stay alert, Batavia surprised us with their decision to counter attack, and I was inconsolable when they went 2-1 up. And then the gaffer made his substitutions."

The rest, they said, was history.

Denied by destiny.

In a crazy span of 6 minutes, BDSM valiantly defied the calls for its exit by rival managers as Wang Kwang Liang (260863481) scored a dramatic equalizer.

"In all honesty I never for a moment felt we should be the ones going out, our belief was that we'd prevail in the end. And as if my prayers were answered, the ball came in from Lee who had scored the opener and deservedly put in a MOTM performance for us. I knew that it would go in, all my specialized training since I'd badgered the gaffer for definitely must show results someday right? It felt like slow motion - I must have done it a gazillion times already, shifting the ball from the left to the right foot after a fake stepover, making a feint before shuffling it past the keeper and tapping it into the beckoning goalmouth," reminisced Wang.

The manager was having lunch then in the busy, noisy & jam-packed day-club that is Golden Shoe hawker. The news was coming in via the Whatsapp chat. It was a day not to be forgotten as the efforts of BDSM and its soon-to-be-crowned local heroes were closely followed by fellow managers.

Within 2 minutes the hosts grabbed the lead again, and all seemed lost for BDSM again.

Lo behold! Kanu's prodigy Ting Loong then popped up to score yet another equalizer at the 87th minute.

The visitors didn't give in and, after 87 minutes, Toh Ting Loong got through the home side's central line of defence, rolling in the equaliser to make it 3 - 3.

"We knew we mustn't give up. And we didn't. The ghost of 2011 still lingered and we wanted to give more to our fans. We'd aged since 2011, yes. But our hunger had only grown in size. We had to redeem ourselves. Putting that goal in was simple, it was something we'd done many times during training. The moment I dispatched the ball I knew we still had a chance," said Toh.

The spectating managers were apparently off their feet.

The commotion caused TheSpecial1 to wake up.

It was of little wonder, as the entire Woodlands was a din of noise as Mohd Shahril Nizam bin Abu Samah and Mohd Ramzi bin Zainuddin (303787547) both scored almost after one another for their respective teams to make the score 4-all, all in the span of a single minute.

As the BDSM players kept on going throughout an ET, last scorer Ramzi almost scored the winner, and veteran keeper Fan Shui kept the team alive with a fabulous save to bring the team through to the ruthless PK.

Within the next 30 minutes that followed, the local Whatsapp managerial fraternity was abuzz with talk on the ongoing PK and all things that mattered. Eventually, as fate would have it, BDSM YA graduate Wong Pin Chuan failed to convert the team's sudden death PK.

Tactical rationale aside, the watching managers were clearly as disappointed as f'zilla, who tried hard to conceal his disappointment before his lunch kaki.

Meanwhile, Pin Chuan (339865524) cut a desolate figure on the pitch and was quickly embraced by all his teammates.

Youth, the double-edged sword to overcome destiny.

"I knew there was a risk in letting him take a spot kick. I'd subbed him for recent acquisition wushu grandmaster Xie Xun because I believe in his youth and slightly better PM to get us more midfield. Xie Xun had brilliant setpieces, but we decided that the club should support youth too, and give them the chance to shine," said f'zilla.

"Let's not forget Pin Chuan had also scored 3 goals in the Cup this season, a remarkable feat for a 19yr old, and also put up a commendable performance while playing among grown men in a round 7 tie. The fact that we didn't concede, and brought on the goal blitz, there must be something right there."

Pin Chuan then recounted his emotions on the pitch.

"I knew that if we were still level we'd have to take PKs. The manager hadn't slot me into the queue since I was a substitute. I knew I had to try my best, but sadly my nerves failed me. The fans must have been disappointed with me, but I'm grateful they didn't direct any of their disappointment with me. I will be back next season, I promise," said Pin Chuan with a steely determination in his tone.

Why go for youth at such a critical juncture of a Cup tie? At this moment, f'zilla stood up, and clenched his right fist tightly against his left chest. All the players also swamped into the interview room and followed suit.

"Here, we strive for family, for kinship. The never-ceasing passing of the baton. Pain is temporary they say, pride is forever. This pride that all BDSM members have, the passing and receiving of the baton of responsibility, is what stays with them together. While other managers may scoff at ideals many call 'unsustainable and fraught with difficulties', we embrace them as lofty vision. All players who come here are drawn by the place itself, and the aura it emits."

The players started chanting like Spartans as Nurse X came in with the Party Whip, the Whip of Labour. AH OO AH OO AH OO!

"When we are here, we only know one thing. That is.. in freak we trust, in others we tryst. They may have our bodies, but not our hearts and souls. If he says we play, we play. We never questioned why we were benched. We all knew that one day, we would get our turn as long as we train diligently with the nurses. And then that day would pass as quickly as it came, because there will be others who will follow in our footsteps, and they too bear the hopes of the nation that raised them like we had," recalled Teng Cheng Woon (181825766).

Teng himself is part of the intergalatically successful BDSM FC YA, having graduated in the November of 2007. He had no regrets about coming back to the club for a second stint in Jan 2012, and featured in memorable victories (346476446) during the 2011 round 7 Cup run. He specially contributed his segment as part of the 20th anniversary celebration of his mother club.

Fellow NT striker Wira (238006540) who was on the bench for the entire day summed it all up.

"Youth is the backbone of our team. Change is not the only constant in BDSM philosophy. The faith in youth and absolute reverence of the gaffer f'zilla are equally cast in stone here."

Happy 20th birthday BDSM FC, may we stand tall and proud for eternity.
