Stamina Training 101

After taking over the U20, it pains me to see that many managers do not know how to manage stamina share properly. This is a guide on how to boost stamina and maintain stamina at a certain level.

After taking over the U20, it pains me to see that many managers do not know how to manage stamina share properly. It becomes troublesome as I have many players with lower than Excellent Stamina, and this affects my decision in player selections. Therefore, I have decided to write a piece on Stamina for all aspiring and current trainers of Malaysian U20/NT Players.

When starting out with a young trainee, it is alright to set stamina to a minimum of 5% share in order to boost his training effectiveness to 95%. But then comes the time when the player has sufficient skills and is ready to boost his stamina to desirable levels. What to do then?

The next logical step to take is to raise the stamina %. I am sorry for stating the obvious but I do notice from the database that some managers reduce the Training Level to below 100% instead. It must be made clear that Stamina % is taken as a portion of Training Level first of all. Aside from giving your own team a small TS boost for a VERY important match, you should never set your Training Level below 100%.

E.g. Training Level 100% * Stamina Share 20% = 20%
E.g. Training Level 90% * Stamina Share 20% = 18%

Now, how much should you increase your Stamina share? Let's take a look at the table in this website.

If you take a look at Age 20, Stamina Share 15%, this results in 8.11, which is Excellent. However, what this guide does is to let you know how much you should set in order for it to slowly (very slowly) approach that desired level, and then it maintains at that point. However, for U20 purposes the transition period is usually quite short. Therefore to have a faster gain, you should perhaps set the stamina to 25%-30% (or more, if you find your gains too slow) for the player to achieve the desired mark faster.

As an example, I see some trainers setting stamina to 50% share, and the player is already at formidable level. To maintain at formidable, you can just set it at 21% which should hold the level to stamina. The portion saved can then be used for increasing training effectiveness instead.

On the other hand, I also noticed some managers reducing the Stamina Share by too much. If you set it back to 10% for example, the stamina will fall to 7.01 (Solid) at Age 20.

Also, in order to have full effectiveness to last the entire match, it is RECOMMENDED that your player should have Excellent Stamina. Anything lower will be not ideal as I have to make a sub to accommodate the player in the lineup.

I hope this provides some clarity on a much underappreciated part of the game. Stamina can make or break a match, as ratings do drop towards the latter stages of the first half and second half. A solid stamina player for example begins to show some drop in performances at the 40th minute, before regaining stamina a half time. The same player then begins to deteriorate at he 70th minute mark, which worsens towards the 90th minute. However, an Excellent stamina player is able to hold on for the entire 90 minutes with negligible drop in performances.

Thanks, I hope you enjoy reading this piece and find it useful to improve your trainees, and perhaps your league performances. Do provide some comments below if you notice anything factually misleading.
