Cymru 64 Tournament

What happens when an intrepid Welsh Manager decides to organise a tournament of 64 Welsh teams.

Errrr.. Hatrick breaks?? But apart from that Zigmondm has organised the tournament and it starts on Monday. Here’s the lowdown on it.

So Zigmondm, why the sudden urge for a tournament?

The idea came from the Cymru ladder, which is not as active as I hoped.

Cymru was always a small nation, but, with the introduction of the 2nd teams became bigger. There has always been around 200 teams (at this time 182 teams) so I decided to run a little tournament for 16 teams a few weeks back, and it was filled quite quick.

After that, I decided to try for the biggest tournament possible, 64 teams. Only Cymru and Cymru based Hattrick International teams, and I was delighted to see we managed to find 64 teams which included:-

League of Wales- 06 Teams
League II- 20 Teams
League III- 26 Teams
League IV- 06 Teams

Hattrick International Cymru Based Teams-

League IV- 01 Team
League V- 03 Teams
League VI- 02 Teams

I hope that this would be the start of a tradition, maybe to have a league based tournament, when it finishes. Then, a cup based tournament and continue with the cycle from there on.

The idea of the 1st tournament, Sweet as Candy (Angels) (3474012), was that it was recommended that teams will play with only Cymru players (or the most players in the line-up if they don't have 11 Cymru players in the squad). All of the managers tried their best to follow that request, and I hope it will continue with this tournament and in the future.

I was pleased to see that even managers without Gold supporter and beyond had joined the tournament, knowing that it will cost them 2 credits, that makes it even more special (not that the managers with supporter joined really for free, the supporter itself cost them money).

I did not realize that you could only join one tournament at a time; so sadly, the winner of the original tournament, our national team manager LuckyJ (4003237) with his Cymru team amlug garan uireb (1629032) couldn’t join the new tournament in time before it was full, so he will not be able to defend his title.

Anyway, Let’s have some fun.

Indeed, with all 64 teams now accepting the invitation we’re ready to go on Monday. I’m just hoping my team can get out of the group stages.
