Looking at the positives, I am happy for Martial, as he had a good game and created our only goal with a beautiful solo action, with a movement similar to Neymar.
Pereira is also looking fine, has some things to correct but generally I like how he's playing.
I feel unsure about Martial. I feel like he is still somewhat in the Van Gaal mindset of first taking a touch and assessing the situation when he gets the ball when in reality he should look at the situation before and be ready to take advantage of situations. I think he sometimes slows our game down and gets into positions where he needs to dribble like he did yesterday(which was great, but even then he got a bit lucky with the first bounce - how often does that happen?). I think he can still improve a lot in his decision making.
As for Pereira - I like him as well. He seems a bit like Lingard in terms of playing style. Both move around a lot, have very quick feet, try short quick passes and seem to work a lot defensively. I think he has talent and could become a top player - we'll see if he makes that step up or not though.
On the other hand, Lindelof's reaction in the penalty area was disappointing. Not only he was late for the tackle, he really kicked the guy making the foul ever so obvious for the ref.
Not really the best reaction, but hey, it's better to discover and correct those things now in the pre-season, hoping that the same will not be repeated in an important game.
Yeah, he made a mistake. I don't mind how it looked - a mistake is a mistake. But I think he has to step up. This is pre-season though and who knows how sharp he is compared to his 100% sharpness. I think yesterday there was a lot of confusion in our defense (or well.. the whole team as a defensive unit in the second half) and even Bailly did a few strange things. The positive from our defense is Jones IMO - he has been fit for a while now and if he continues like this he might get back to his best at some point. Valencia is positive as well, but it seems he isn't worth mentioning as we know he'll always put in the 7/10 performance at right back.
Talking about correcting some errors, Mourinho should talk to Pogba and make him stop the showboating almost every time he receives the ball - like he wants to prove that no one can take it away from him. I understand sometimes it is necessary to hold the ball a bit, turn with it etc., but not every goddamn time ffs...
We all know Pogba is a super player, but this is one of the things he should change urgently.
I agree that his decision-making can improve considerably. It's a bit like with Ronaldo at the time though - even with average decision making he is one of the very best. Hopefully he wants to become the best and isn't happy with his current level. I mean - Ronaldo at United scored 42 goals in one season. We can say that his decision-making at the time wasn't as good as it has been since then, because since then he has usually scored 50+ per season.
And then there was Fellaini's miss - one of a kind :)
Great cross, the ball flying slowly, he is alone in front of the goal and...WHAM! - he puts it 20 yards off target....I didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
I laughed out loud at that moment as well. That was poor. Summed up the second half for us really. Most of our players were as much mentally in the game as Fellaini at that moment it seemed.
